At Glimpse, we’ve been using generative AI within our platform to help clients analyze and code data and then output things like “Newsworthy Topics” or “Key Messaging” (tailored to the responses of particular audience segments) in industry-leading ways. But Glimpse is also taking the lead investigating the adoption of generative AI across organizations. That means collaborations with a leading B2B media organization on a workplace adoption study (to be released in October) and Glimpse sentiment trackers to look at attitudes, emotions, and top-of-mind awareness toward generative AI and their evolution over time.
Glimpse recently surveyed 300+ Census Representative US residents in the 4th installment of our longitudinal study of AI adoption attitudes, particularly regarding the future of work.
One big takeaway: When it comes to generative AI and the future of work, negative sentiment is climbing over time!

Responses to our generative AI sentiment tracker study varied widely, with some expressing concern that AI could lead to job loss and unemployment, particularly in lower-skilled roles and entry-level positions. Others believed that
AI could increase efficiency and productivity by automating tasks, potentially leading to advancements in technology and competitiveness among companies. Some respondents also mentioned the potential for AI to take over creative tasks and disrupt industries such as entertainment and customer service.
A few reps expressed uncertainty or lack of knowledge about AI, while others voiced fears about the ethical implications and potential misuse of the technology. There was also a belief that AI could lead to laziness and dependency, reducing human creativity and critical thinking.
And here’s the big takeaway: Negative sentiment regarding Generative AI and the future of work is increasing over time.
The “positives” are relatively consistent. But as the “neutrals” and “mixed sentiment” folks learn more about Generative AI and the future of work, negative sentiment is climbing. Every organization planning on adopting generative AI solutions (that is, every organization!) should pay attention to the rising negativity and consider strategies for managing it.
The most common open-ended opinion expressed was that AI could lead to job displacement, with roles in customer service, writing, editing, and content creation potentially being replaced by AI systems. As one respondent put it, "It will replace jobs such as customer service and computer help desk functions." Another echoed this sentiment, stating, "I think that AI will replace jobs for people."
However, not all views were negative. Some respondents saw potential benefits, such as increased efficiency and improved quality of work. "It will make work more efficient and save a lot of money," one respondent noted. Others mentioned the potential for AI to streamline processes, increase sales, and improve marketing and advertising.
Yet, there were also concerns about the ethical implications of AI, with some fearing it could be used for nefarious purposes or lead to a loss of human creativity. "Generative AI will impact future work conditions in that the element of reliance on human creativity may be at risk if only using AI for projects and ideas," one respondent warned.
It's clear that as AI continues to evolve, so too will its impact on the world of work. With this in mind, take a look at Glimpse Chief Strategy Officer Adam Bai’s adoption tips in this article on the Hubspot blog.
